St. John’s News and Notes for: SEPTEMBER 14, 2023
ST. JOHN THE APOSTLE EPISCOPAL CHURCH |
Dear Friends: As most of you are aware, I had my own bout with COVID last week. Fr. Ash and all of you graciously stepped in and saved the day with a faithful Sunday worship in my absence. It was definitely not a planned absence, but in these situations, you find out just how little control over some things you really have. If you have experienced COVID yourself, you know that one of the big symptoms is fatigue. I had a mild case with some stuffiness, scratchy throat and drainage. But the overwhelming symptom I faced was just crushing tiredness. Now that the newest variety of the vaccine is out, I encourage each of you to get your boosters. This stuff is no fun. One thing I did while at home was to watch the Disney movie, “Frozen.” No, I’d never seen it. Yes, it’s a kid’s movie. And yes, I blame the Hollywood Writers’ Strike for limiting my viewing options. But there was something reassuring in the movie’s huge hit song, “Let It Go!” I realized that’s exactly what we all have to do when faced with something beyond our control. I knew that church was out of my control for a week. God was in charge, just like He always is. I trusted you all to take care of everything just fine. And you did. I had to let go of my fears and worries and concerns about what would get done and not get done, and everything else that needed my attention last week. I look forward to rejoining you this week. In a moment of Disney princess movie Zen, perhaps you too, can contemplate those things you can let go of, for your greater good and peace of mind. In Christ, The Rev. Dr. Marci Pounders+Rector |
