St. John’s News and Notes for AUGUST 20, 2023

ST. JOHN THE APOSTLE EPISCOPAL CHURCH
Dear Friends:
This week, due to unusual need, I am asking for some volunteers to step forward in the following ways:
First, Terry Hayden is now visiting seven shut-ins on Sundays to give them Communion and some compassionate conversation. Seven people is WAY too many for one person, and it takes up every bit of his Sunday afternoons. This is too much for any one person.
We are seeking at least two or three additional Lay Eucharist Ministers to help him out. LEVs ideally should be visiting only one or two people each week and it does NOT have to be on a Sunday. Any day or time of the week would be fine. We have two Communion kits, so LEV’s must be mindful of returning the kits so that someone else may use them. If you feel called to this very special ministry, please see Mother Marci+. It is easy and it is so very needed to keep those whose mobility is affected in touch with our church family.
Second: Musicians and vocalists. Since our music leader has resigned and our pianist will be leaving at the end of August, we are in need of anyone who can play piano or an instrument. We also need someone to relieve Rose-Margaret of playing the organ each week – it is a disk system and very easy to learn. You do NOT need to know music, just how to load the disks and push the buttons. Right now, Rose-Margaret is the only one who is familiar with the organ and if she is away or ill, there will be no one to play it. This is NOT a good plan. Mother Marci has reached out to the local colleges, the UNT Musicians Guild, the Choristers Guild and the American Guild of Organists. We hope to hear something soon.
These are our most urgent needs. Of course, there are always other needs too, such as helping Rose-Margaret get the sanctuary ready for Sunday, assisting with Altar Guild, heading up our monthly pot-lucks, reading at the lecturn, acolyting, helping with our Fall Fest, serving as back up security and back up audio-video specialist, and counting the collection each week.
We need you! St. John’s is dedicated to knowing Christ, prayer and service. One or two sweet, faithful people cannot and should not do it all. But together, we can perform miracles as we rely on the Holy Spirit’s guidance as we prepare for growth in the coming years.
Questions? See Mother Marci+!
In Christ,
The Rev. Dr. Marci Pounders+Rector
